What is couples counselling?

Couples counselling, sometimes referred to as relationship therapy, focuses on understanding and improving the way two people relate to one another.

Sessions involve guided, open conversation with a trained therapist who supports both partners to feel heard, respected and understood. Together, you may explore patterns within the relationship, emotional responses, unmet needs and shared goals.

Relationship therapy can support a wide range of situations, from communication difficulties, trust issues or infidelity to parenting pressures, intimacy concerns, major life changes such as illness or a new baby, or simply a desire to strengthen your connection.

Our approach

Our therapists use an integrative approach, combining a range of evidence-based methods to suit your relationship’s unique needs.

This flexible approach allows sessions to adapt as your relationship evolves, helping you explore challenges at a pace that feels comfortable and constructive.

Sessions are typically held weekly or fortnightly at our Lincoln counselling rooms or online. Both partners are encouraged to engage openly, reflect and develop new ways of understanding and relating to one another.

Couples counselling supports clearer communication, healthier conflict and stronger connection.

Common reasons

Why couples seek support

Many couples seek counselling when communication becomes difficult, trust has been affected or patterns of conflict feel hard to change.

Other reasons include parenting pressures, changes in circumstances, intimacy concerns or uncertainty about the future of the relationship.

Some couples also choose counselling proactively, using the space to strengthen their connection and deepen mutual understanding.

Benefits

What couples counselling can offer

Couples counselling can support clearer communication, healthier ways of managing conflict and the rebuilding of emotional connection and trust.

It can also provide clarity and direction, helping you make considered decisions about your relationship and your future, whether that means growing closer or separating with respect.

Your therapist offers neutral, professional guidance within a calm and confidential environment where both partners are supported equally.
